On Sunday December 16th and Monday December 17th, the Arts of Fashion Foundation, a San Francisco-based fashion education 501 (C)(3) non-profit, held the 2018 Symposium which culminated with the 2018 Arts of Fashion International Competition Monday night. The sponsorship of YKK Corporation and the support of VIP guests made possible the two days of events, which allowed fashion students to interact with luminaries in the industry and explain the inspiration and passion behind their runway looks for the Monday night show. At the Sunday seminar, four international guest judges, including: Felipe Oliveira Baptista, Nadine Dufat, Haesung Bong, and Alice Loffler shared their rich and varied experience in the fashion industry with all attendees.
The events Monday, hosted at the beautiful Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, included a portfolio review in which the expert judges were able to discuss the projects with the students, a preliminary project presentation and finally the incredible runway show in which 50 students from 15 different countries showcased innovative and impeccably constructed looks. Of the 50 candidates, 26 flew in from all over the world to attend the event, as did VIP guests hosted by Committee Chair, Juliet Bergh. With such a wide variety of quality designs and original concepts, it was a close competition and a difficult deliberation to select the top six candidates. The results and prizes, internships with reputable design houses, are as follows:
